Which Currency Should I Take on My Trip to Cuba?
The Cuban Central Bank announced new restrictions on the use or conversion of U.S. dollars beginning June 21, 2021. U.S. dollars in cash cannot be converted to local currency, may not be accepted for payment, and cannot be used to pay fees or taxes at the airport, which is why many opted for the European currency for trips to the island.
U.S. credit and debit cards do not work in Cuba.
Your teacher or host family, will pick you up at the airport, stress free , and will accompany you to the accommodation, where they’ll help you settle down and give you some information about where to go on your first day, and what’s around you.
REMEMBER: All passengers must present, in order to enter Cuba, a certificate with a NEGATIVE PCR result (COVID-19 RT-PCR), carried out in the 72 hours before arrival in Cuba.
The document certifying the result of the PDIA (Active Infection Diagnostic Test) must contain:
Passport number, document or national identity card
Date of the test
Identification and contact details of the center conducting the analysis
Technique used and negative test result
Don’t forget to bring several masks and hand sanitizer.
